Staples Parents

Staples Varsity Boy's Team 2017-2018

How much does it cost?

  • The squash program is partially subsidized by WPS
  • For the 2017/18 season, the player fee was $700 plus a $300 facility surcharge for those not Intensity squash members
  • Fees cover squash coaching, matches, league fees and transportation to practice, and court access.
  • There will be a separate fee for those that attend the High School Nationals

How many Staples teams will be competing?

  • 5 teams - Boys Varsity, Boys Junior Varsity, Girls Varsity, and Girls Junior Varsity and a club team.
  • 8 players on each Varsity team and 8 players on each JV team. The club team may have more players.

  •  We recognize that everyone learns the game at different rates and try to minimize cuts.
  • Unfortunately, we don’t have the court capacity to accommodate everyone.  However, we have arranged for players who did not  make the main squad to continue to develop their skills at GFA.

I didn’t get an email that I know other parents got. What do I do?

  • The reason you didn't get the email is that the one sent out was to parents only.
  • You probably have not completed a parent registration, so you're not getting parent emails.  If you complete the PARENT registration, you will get those emails.
  • Fill out this registration. Make sure that you use the same SportsEngine id that you signed your player up with, that way you can declare yourself a 'guardian'.

  • Team uniforms, bags, and other gear now available. Check out
  • ASF in town supplies the uniforms. They are not particularly responsive, so get your order in quickly if you need a uniform this year.

How are teams managed?

  • Squash is managed using a ladder system with the top player being number one
  • Players have the opportunity to challenge other players above them on the ladder
  • The top 8 players on the ladder will play for the Varsity team and the next 8 players will play for the JV team.
  • The ladder rankings will change throughout the season based on challenge match results giving all players the chance to win a spot on the Varsity team.

What’s the time commitment?

  • The season runs from after Thanksgiving to the February recess
  • Required practices are Monday to Thursday after school with an additional practice on Sunday evening.
  • The boys and girls practices run in specified rotating slots -- from 3.00 to 4.15 and 4.00 to 5.15.  Sunday evening runs from 5.15 to 6.45. If you are scheduled for the late practice, there is a study facility onsite.
  • You will practice three times per week, with times scheduled depending on which practice squad you are on.
  • There will usually be one match per week during the season for each player. On those days, there is no practice for that team. Detailed calendar information will be on
