Staples Squash is sending teams to the National Championship and Interscholastic championship.
A word on coaching.
90 seconds between games is not long. Especially when you’re in a tough match. To help, here’s some do’s and don’ts of player coaching that the Staples teams will use:
Player |
Coach (One person only) |
DO: Rests (sitting or standing) |
DONT: Mob coach (more than one player, parent, or coach voice) |
DO: Breathes deeply, and resets |
DO: Pick one element of the game to coach on. |
DO: Wipes down (hands, grip, face, arms) |
DO: Reinforce something the player is doing well. |
DO: Refocuses on the match. Focus on staying in the ‘Now’ and playing one point at a time. |
DO: If you want your player to do something different, don’t phrase it as a don’t. Phrase it as a do. E.g. If you want your player to stop hitting loose cross-courts, don’t say, “Stop hitting loose cross-courts.” Do say, “Your straight rails are working, hit more of those. Go straight whenever you can.” |
